Let's answer some common questions often asked about natural soap bars.

Why is the use of bar soap "shamed" by some?

It could be due to misunderstanding ingredients in soap bars or misuse of Soap, or maybe it's because there are people out there who don't want to use a single soap bar to wash their face and butt, and there's a lot of misinformation that bar soaps are harmful to your skin. While bar soaps can be over drying, irritating, and leave a film on your skin, not all bar soaps are created equal. With advances in natural health care, we have also seen improvement in natural bar soaps, using incredible natural, plant-based, non-toxic ingredients that are beneficial for your skin and do no harm to the earth.

Are Natural Soap Bars Better?

Organic Soaps are healthier for your skincare routine as mass-produced soaps contain one or more of the following: dangerous preservatives, petroleum-based lathering agents, synthetic fragrances, and harsh dyes or colouring agents. Some of the harsh chemicals in regular soaps are Parabens, Sulfates, and Triclosan, and these ingredients give bar soaps a bad rep.

You won't find any of these nasties in EKOH soap bars, and we only use all-natural plant-based ingredients.

Is organic Soap good for your face?

Due to using natural ingredients in organic soaps, such as essential oils, herbal extracts and spices, natural soaps tend to have healing properties for your skin. Organic soap bars are gentle cleansers and can also help improve skin conditions like acne, eczema, dry skin and even the effects of sunburn. Like with any face wash, keep Soap out of your eyes.

What is the difference between organic and natural Soap?

Experts have said that store bought or regular mass produced soaps have surface-based detergents in them to create a lather. However, natural soaps are made with natural oils such as hemp seed and coconut oils that help clean your skin naturally. Soaps may claim to be organic but are not certified, and EKOH Soap Bars are certified by Bio-Gro NZ.

Does natural Soap really work to clean your hands?

Now, you might think you need the most potent antimicrobial or antibacterial Soap to keep your hands germ-free, but that's just not true. Natural Soap and hand wash — will get your hands just as clean as soaps containing biocides and pesticides.

What should you look for in a natural soap?

To err on the side of caution, opt for soaps made with essential oils and ensure they're organic certified. All of our EKOH soap bars are created from pure essential oils that are great for your skin, body and peace of mind.

Ekoh body wash bars have the added benefit of organic coconut oil, which helps bolster your skin's protective barrier layer, trapping moisture inside and keeping skin supple and hydrated. Organic coconut oil can also help reduce skin inflammation. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for chafed or irritated skin, and it also has been shown to help increase collagen production.

EKOH natural Soap Bars made with Organic Coconut oil are certified by BioGro, New Zealand's most prominent and best-known certifier for organic produce and products. Buying organic beauty products is not only better for you but also the earth.

What is the most natural type of Soap Bar?

Natural may always sound good, but is there a benefit to using natural organic soaps over conventional soaps? The short answer is - Yes!

In general, natural soaps don't contain the artificial, super-harsh ingredients found lurking in mass-produced soaps you might discover from big company soap brands. Instead, EKOH natural body wash soap bars use natural ingredients, base oils (like coconut oil, avocado oil, argan and shea butter), essential oils, and plant extracts that provide a satisfying cleanse yet are healthier for you and the planet.

Consider, if you use natural bar soaps, you're getting the best ingredients for your hair, body, and face and helping the environment by reducing plastic waste. Bottles of body wash and shampoo are full of plastic and contribute to our plastic pollution crisis. With bar soaps, you can have good hygiene without all the plastic. Sounds fantastic, right - that our kind of happy!

What to avoid in soap bars?

The top ingredients to avoid when it comes to bar soaps aren't always easy to find in an ingredient list because they tend to go by specific product, chemical names or even reference codes. Artificial fragrances, parabens, sodium sulfates, triclosan and microplastic beads for exfoliation and fillers are the worst ingredients in bar soap and don't forget palm oil, as its farming and harvesting practices are generally damaging to our environment.

Many organic skin products, which have become major beauty trends, may also contain high doses of steroids and harmful chemicals, including hydroquinone, which is a skin-lightening agent and can cause damage to your skin tone.

We have done the hard work for you and ensured that our EKOH soap bars, shampoo bars and HealthyClean body washes do not have any nasty ingredients.

What Soap do dermatologists recommend?

Most dermatologists will tell you to avoid using harsh fragrances and chemicals in soap bars. You risk removing the natural oils from the skin, causing dryness - so read the ingredients! If you bathe or shower too frequently (multiple times a day), this is also not good for your skin.

Why should you use natural Soap?

There are several benefits to using natural Soap, let's list a few :

  • Using natural Soap bar cleanses and moisturises and contains natural oils vs "Fake Soap ", which has synthetic fragrances and no natural oils.
  • Earth-friendly and biodegradable ingredients are the best natural soaps in NZ.
  •  Cruelty-Free and animal-friendly NZ
  • Unique, handmade artisan products support local production in New Zealand.
  • Better for the environment and better for our skins.
  • Rich in antioxidants and certified organic soap NZ
  • Pair your soap bar with the EKOH soap safer bag made of hemp and sisal and you have a wonderful all over body exfoliator and soap saver.

What is Castile Soap?

True Castile soap is made from just one oil – olive oil. It may contain colours and scents, but it uses only one oil. EKOH Soap uses organic coconut oil, not olive oil, and is certified organic and eco-friendly. Instead of being made from lard, tallow, or other animal fats or petroleum-based products like many soap bars, Castile Soap and EKOH Soap are made from vegetable oils, like rice oil, and are considered vegan soaps.

What are alternatives to olive oil and castile soap :

  • Coconut Oil soap ( EKOH Soap bars): This is very similar to castile soap but with a base of coconut oil.
  • Goat's milk soap is made from a base of goat's milk.
  • Marseille soap is a mixture of oil, sea salt, and ash.
  • Aleppo soap contains a combination of olive oil and laurel oil.

Make the switch to EKOH bar soaps , No frills, just moisture from cold-pressed coconut oil. And obviously, it smells heavenly too, and it's rich and works up a lather that feels like it would cost a fortune.
